Milovice - This September, a large-scale renovation of the cultural house in Milovice is expected to be completed. The reconstruction cost the town approximately 200 million crowns, with a small portion covered by a subsidy for insulating the building. The cultural house will also include a new information center, which is set to open this spring, the Museum of Military History of Milovice, and a café. It will feature two halls and a ballroom for hosting balls and other events. This was stated to ČTK by the town's spokesperson, Eva Hrušková.
The complete renovation of the cultural house, which is part of the town hall, began in late 2018 and is being carried out by BFK service. The building was constructed at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s as a cultural center for Soviet officers who lived in Milovice with their families. Between 1981 and 1982, artist Radomír Kolář and his collaborators created a large stone mosaic here, which contains over 440,000 stones. According to Hrušková, it should be the largest or one of the largest in Central Europe. The mosaic, depicting the military camaraderie with Soviet troops, astronauts, soldiers, and proud working people, as well as other period elements, will be preserved in the renovated cultural house.
The large hall will seat up to 450 people; originally there were 600 seats, and the reduction in the number of places aims to enhance visitor comfort. The large hall will host theatrical performances and cinema screenings. The town is collaborating with the Military History Institute on the preparation of the Museum of Military History.
The budget for Milovice is 280 million crowns, and the town has over 12,000 residents. The renovation of the cultural house is one of the largest investment projects in the town in recent years.
