Repairs of the cultural house in Milovice will be complicated by the replacement of trusses

Milovice - Milovice in Nymburk is renovating the cultural center. The work will be complicated and more expensive due to an unplanned replacement of the roof trusses; the contract worth approximately 130 million crowns will increase by tens of millions as a result, said Mayor Lukáš Pilc (ODS) to ČTK.

The cultural center is part of the building that houses the town hall. The building was originally created as a cultural center for Soviet officers who lived in Milovice with their families.

At the turn of 2018 and 2019, a complete reconstruction began. After the repair, there will be a large hall for 450 people, a dance hall, a theater, a restaurant, and a museum of Milovice history, which the city is developing in cooperation with the Military Historical Institute, according to Pilc.

During the construction, it was revealed that the roof trusses needed to be replaced. According to the mayor, there is no other option but to dismantle the entire roof. "The structural engineer said that the trusses must be replaced. The company is now calculating this and choosing the technological procedure,” said Pilc. Subsequently, the representatives must meet to approve the price increase. The city also wants to have an expert opinion prepared to see if the price set by the construction company corresponds to reality.

"The construction is already underway, so for me, it’s better not to stop it and to finish it. It’s in the very center of the city, Milovice will be able to live culturally," said the mayor. According to him, neither the current nor the former city leadership can be blamed for the discovered problems, nor the designer. "Bridges and roofs have collapsed, several measures have been taken,” said Pilc.

Most of the costs will be paid by the city from its budget. The town hall only received a grant for insulating the building, which amounts to 12 million crowns. The exact completion date of the construction will depend on the replacement of the damaged trusses.
