Prague - Architect Eva Jiřičná today received the award from the Ministry of Culture for her contribution to the field of architecture. During the ceremony at the Trade Fair Palace, the award was presented to her by Minister Václav Riedlbauch. At the same time, today state awards were given for contributions in other areas of cultural activity. Awards were received by Ivan Vyskočil for theater, Milan Slavický for musical creation, and Vladimír Kopecký for visual arts. "I think architects spend their whole lives apologizing to those who suffer from what they have done," said Jiřičná, who is convinced that each of her architectural realizations is the work of the entire team. This year, the Ministry of Culture awarded the architecture prize for the first time. Jiřičná, who has lived in Britain since August 1968, received the award for her contributions to the field both at home and abroad. The world-renowned architect and designer has completed dozens of famous projects, but she has a special relationship with those that serve the public - such as the renovation of the interior of the famous Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Such projects bring joy to more people, she believes. From her recent Czech commissions, she realized the university center in Zlín, for example. At the ceremonial evening, state awards for literature were also presented. The award was given to poet, prose writer, and literary historian Zdeněk Rotrekl. This year, the jury awarded the prize for translation work to Miroslav Jindra. Each of the awarded received a reward of 300,000 crowns.
