Prague – This year, the State Prize for Literature was awarded to playwright, writer, and chief rabbi Karol Sidon. The jury appreciated his lifelong contributions, highlighting particularly his books "A Dream of My Father" and "A Dream of Me," as well as his screenwriting collaboration with director Juraj Jakubisko. The laureate of the State Prize for Translation was Romanist Anna Kareninová, whose name is associated with translations of French and Italian books and films.

Today, at the New Stage of the National Theatre, the State Prizes were presented by Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek (ČSSD). In addition to Sidon and Kareninová, six other artists were honored, including one posthumously, for their contributions to theatre, music, visual arts, architecture, and cinematography.

For his lifelong artistic work, pedagogical activity, and undeniable contributions to the visual arts, Václav Cigler became a laureate; he is one of the most significant artists from the generation that emerged in the early 1960s. His work focuses on sculptural objects made of cut glass, lighting, jewelry, drawings, and architectural projects.

Ivan Kroupa (59), who is the author of the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague and the Bažantnice at Prague Castle, received the award for architecture. The jury highlighted his extraordinary authorship approach in a European context as well as his pedagogical activities.
