Prague – A proposal for the establishment of a new contributory organization of the Ministry of Culture, which should become the Silent Monument in Bubny commemorating the horrors of the Holocaust, has been discussed in the comment procedure. The Ministry of Culture intends to submit the proposal to the government at its next meeting on Monday or the following one. Immediately after the government's approval, the ministry should begin to take over the activities of the Silent Monument. This was stated to ČTK by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Culture, Michaela Lagronová.

The Silent Monument, which has thus far been developed around the Prague Bubny railway station by a public benefit society, would be the 30th contributory organization of the ministry. The purpose of the Silent Monument is to interpret the fates of a portion of the Jewish population during World War II and the significance of the Prague-Bubny station and the adjacent urban district of Prague 7, which are inextricably linked to the transports to ghettos, concentration and extermination camps. The monument is not intended to be just a memorial site; it should also feature a permanent exhibition space for seasonal projects and an educational center.

For this year, the material prepared for the government accounts for a budget of 6.8 million crowns, and for the next two years, the budget for the monument should be around 13.5 million crowns.

After the completion of the building renovation and the establishment of the exhibition, the budget should be around 28 million crowns from the year 2023. In the first three years, nine people should work in the monument, and from the year 2023, about 23 employees should be employed.

For the project preparation of the construction, the Ministry of Culture has provided the Shoah Memorial in Prague with approximately 5.6 million crowns, and the documentation is to be submitted by the end of September. For other parts of the project, expenses of about ten million crowns are expected. The Ministry has also allocated 50 million for the creation of a permanent exhibition at the Silent Monument. The expenses for the renovation and completion of the building are estimated by the Ministry to be up to 200 million crowns, and this amount must be increased in its budget; the funds are to be drawn in the year 2022.
