Mn. Hradiště will start building a footbridge over the D10 highway, restoring the connection between the city and Horka

Mnichovo Hradiště - Mnichovo Hradiště in Mladá Boleslav will begin the construction of a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the D10 motorway towards Horka Hill. The bridge across the motorway between the town and the local parts of Dobrá Voda and Lhotice and the Bohemian Paradise will cost approximately 36 million crowns, with most of the costs covered by the city from a subsidy from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The architectural design of the bridge was prepared by Atelier AP of architect Josef Pleskot. The construction company Brex is expected to complete the work by October, Mayor Jiří Plíhal (We Live for Hradiště) said today at the ceremonial start of construction.

A hiking trail originally led through the site, which was interrupted by the construction of the motorway. "Once, the Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise led this way; there are still old red tourist signs on the trees, which were cut by the D10 motorway in 1985," said Plíhal. The bridge will create a safe connection with Dobrá Voda and Lhotice, but also with Bosnia and Kněžmost. It is primarily intended for pedestrians and cyclists who currently reach Mnichovo Hradiště along busy roads.

The arched bridge with a steel structure, about 50 meters long, will connect to the axis of the historic linden Husova alley. After the completion of the bridge, plans are in place for its renovation. In the future, the city wants to lead a bike path over the bridge towards the Bohemian Paradise. Beyond the motorway begins the tourist-attractive Bohemian Paradise and Mnichovo Hradiště is to be one of its gateways.

According to the commercial and technical director of the construction company Brex, Ladislav Vodička, the preparatory work, including the bridge manufacturing, will take about four months. "It isn't an entirely simple structure; there are curved elements, it’s a bridge over a motorway, so it has higher demands than a regular steel structure," Vodička said. According to him, the bridge should be installed in the second half of August. "The actual installation of the bridge is planned for one night when the motorway will have to be closed," he added. The works also include terrain adjustments and the construction of an access road.

According to Josef Pleskot's design, a bridge was also created over the Jizera River in Mladá Boleslav at Krásná louka, the construction of which was completed by builders in mid-March. The city is also building a network of connecting bike paths around it, with completion and adjustments planned for May.
