Rožnov pod Radhoštěm - The Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm has begun the reconstruction of the boiler room in the Maměnka building at Pustevny in the Beskids. The museum's spokesperson, Pavlína Polášková, informed ČTK today. Maměnka, like the neighboring Libušín, which burned down three years ago, was designed by the Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič in the style of so-called folk secession. Both buildings were opened in 1899, Libušín served as a restaurant in recent years, while Maměnka is a hotel.
The goal of the project is to stabilize the boiler room, which is partially embedded in the slope. Humidity will also be removed. “The reconstruction involves the replacement of the existing boiler technology, which is at the end of its lifespan, was implemented in 2001, and no longer meets current technical requirements,” said museum director Jindřich Ondruš. The reconstruction is expected to be completed in November, and the work will cost 1.5 million crowns.
Jurkovič's buildings are among the symbols of Pustevny. The museum, as their administrator, decided immediately after the fire at Libušín to carry out its scientific reconstruction, and the new Libušín began to be built this year. Hundreds of new beams will be used, about 20 percent of the building will consist of beams from the original Libušín, which were saved and are usable. The new Libušín is expected to be operational in the autumn of 2019. The total restoration is projected to cost 100 million crowns.
