Prague – The Ministry of the Environment (MŽP) in cooperation with the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic today begins accepting applications for grants for the renovation of public buildings in Prague and heritage-protected buildings throughout the Czech Republic. A total of 3.5 billion Czech crowns is available for comprehensive revitalizations of public buildings under the ENERGov program. The amount is divided into two parts: two billion is allocated for the renovation of heritage buildings across the country, and 1.5 billion for the renovation of public buildings in Prague. Applications can be submitted on the website zadosti.sfzp.cz until February 29, 2024.
Support can be sought by municipalities, cities, regions, public institutions, contributory or state organizations, schools, or foundations, for example. The calls are non-competitive, meaning projects are assessed in the order of application submission.
The amount of support will be calculated based on the costs of each measure and will range from approximately 40 to 75 percent depending on the scope of the building renovation. The more energy-efficient the building is, the more investors can receive. The funds will come from the Modernization Fund, which draws finances from the proceeds of emissions permits.
The renovation of public buildings aims to achieve a minimum energy saving of 30 percent from non-renewable sources. For heritage sites, the saving requirement is reduced to a minimum of ten percent, as there are more complex possibilities for modifications. The grant can be used for insulation of the building and subsequent construction modifications, reconstruction of heating systems, or the installation of controlled ventilation.
Energy savings in buildings can be achieved, according to the Minister of the Environment, Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), through careful methods so as not to damage the architectural uniqueness of the buildings and their facades. For heritage sites, it is, according to him, possible to insulate, for example, the ceiling or the floor.
