BRNO - Building authorities in the South Moravian Region issued a total of 19,735 building permits last year, which was about 600 fewer than the previous year. However, the estimated value of the buildings increased from 28.5 billion to more than 33.5 billion crowns. After Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, it was the third highest in the country. This is evident from the published data of the Czech Statistical Office. In the Czech Republic, the region ranks second in the number of issued building permits, accounting for nearly 14 percent of the total number of all issued building permits. The average value of buildings per permit remained approximately the same year-on-year at 1.7 million crowns, which placed the region eighth in the Czech Republic last year. The most, 6,671 permits, related to environmental protection buildings in South Moravia last year, followed by more than 6,000 permits for the construction of residential buildings. For new construction, officials issued about 11,200 building permits in the region last year, with an estimated value of nearly 24 billion crowns. Thus, the South Moravian Region still holds an imaginary second to third place behind Central Bohemia and Prague in construction. Construction provides jobs for more than 20,000 people in the region, and their number increases year-on-year by two to three percent. Similarly, the average salary in the field has increased, reaching 17,100 crowns last year. The largest number of builders is in Brno-city and also in the Břeclav region. In the Czech Republic, the number of issued building permits decreased year-on-year by nearly seven percent to a total of 143,000, and the estimated value of buildings reached nearly 326 billion crowns.
