Ostrava – Floating piers will be a new attraction on three water bodies in the Moravian-Silesian Region, which, in cooperation with local municipalities, is preparing at the Větřkovice Reservoir, the Karviná Sea, and Slezská Harta. For visitors, the special structures floating on the water's surface will provide additional activities by the water. This was announced to journalists today by the region's spokesperson Nikola Birklenová.

"The floating piers will hover on the water's surface and will be a draw for tourists not only from our region. Staying by the water will be more attractive and pleasant; people will be able to relax on the piers, take beautiful photos, use them as a docking station for boats, or as a comfortable entry into the water. We have completed the project documentation on which the piers will be built at three locations," said Jan Krkoška, deputy governor for tourism and regional development.

The visual design of the floating piers was created by architect Jiří Halfar. "I am glad that I could design relaxation areas on the water. It is a beautiful theme. The inspiration from nature is undeniable. Both in the shape of the bench called a nest and in the assembly of the pontoon resembling a plant stem. Individual seating areas above the water are connected to the main pontoon in such a way that the nests open up to the views. The basic idea I started with was to create a safely defined area with a generous view of the calming surface – that was the fundamental concept of my design,” Halfar said.

According to Krkoška, the region has identified the Větřkovice Reservoir, the Karviná Sea, and Slezská Harta as the locations for the new attraction, which have promising recreational potential. The piers on the water surfaces are to be built and subsequently maintained by the cities of Kopřivnice, Karviná, and the Microregion Slezská Harta, which will enter into a memorandum of cooperation with the Moravian-Silesian Region. "Based on these memoranda, we will provide our partners with the completed project documentation, and we are also prepared to contribute financially to the projects," Krkoška added.

The cost of constructing one pier is estimated at approximately two million crowns. Currently, preparations are underway for the signing of memoranda, and after the selection of the contractor, construction is expected to begin, which could be completed in the second half of next year.
