The construction of the multifunctional building Václav in the center of Ostrava is entering its final phase

Ostrava – The construction of the multifunctional building Václav in the center of Ostrava, costing approximately 500 million crowns, has reached its highest point. Thanks to the glass façade, the building is taking its final shape, and internal finishing works are beginning. The construction is set to be completed in the first half of 2027, representatives of the development group Antracit and investment holding Purposia Group, to which Antracit belongs, said today.

"We have the rough structure, the cladding, all the backbone utilities, technology installations, and we are approaching the phase where we need to finish the interior surfaces, floors, partitions, and we are starting to complete the actual finishing works," said Martin Nevrlý, director of the Ostrava branch of IMOS Brno, which is the general contractor of the project.

The Václav building is being constructed at Kostelní Square in the gap left by the original buildings opposite the Church of St. Václav from the 13th century, one of the oldest structures in Ostrava. The plot had been unused for many years, serving as a parking lot. The Antracit group purchased it from the previous owner, including the original project.

Nevrlý stated that the construction is proceeding according to schedule, with only the very beginning being somewhat unpredictable. "No one can see into the ground, and during the excavation, although an archaeological survey was conducted, unexpected things were uncovered, but rather underground structures that needed to be removed. So, the beginning was about some exploration, but after that, the work proceeded according to plan," said Nevrlý.

Directly across from the church and the neighboring bishopric, the building features a glass façade that reflects the church. The building will house offices totaling 3,000 square meters on five floors, five commercial units on the ground floor, and in a separate section facing Střelniční Street, 16 rental apartments. There will be 76 parking spaces in the basement.

"The administrative part is mostly occupied. There is one floor left available. It's about 500 square meters, so that is still under negotiation. And we have three commercial units left available, each approximately over 100 square meters," said Antracit director Zuzana Bajgarová. Among the occupied spaces, there is expected to be a café.

"This is actually the only administrative building being constructed and completed in Ostrava at this time. There is some administration on the Ostrava market, but mostly older buildings, and it is evident that companies are interested in new modern spaces," Bajgarová said.

People will be able to visit Václav even before its completion. In November, it will be part of the Meat Design Ostrava festival. Antracit will also complete the renovation of a historic villa at the corner of Dvořákova and Přívozská streets in downtown Ostrava this spring and will begin demolition work and an archaeological survey on the project to restore the former Hotel Palace.
