Náchod - The Náchod City Hall has begun preparing the revitalization of the castle hill. The city has already signed a contract with the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), which owns most of the land, and has commissioned a study. The public will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with it. This was announced by Nina Adlof, spokesperson for the Náchod City Hall.
Starting from April 7, panels with the design study, description, and photographs will be displayed on the first floor of the Náchod City Hall. The study will also be published on the city's website and in the April issue of the municipal newsletter. The Náchod City Hall aims to obtain funding for the project costing tens of millions of crowns, with construction work likely to begin next year.
"The discussion about restoring the park modifications of the castle hill in Náchod has been ongoing for more than twenty years. It is an important and undoubtedly extensive project through which we want to continue the tradition of our ancestors and make this place accessible to all residents and visitors of Náchod in a fitting modern form," stated Deputy Mayor Tomáš Šubert regarding the initiative.
Originally, the castle hill in Náchod was bare; in the mid-19th century, it was planted with fruit orchards, and since the mid-20th century, it has been overgrown with spontaneous vegetation. In addition to neglected greenery, the area faces issues with erosion, an inadequate drainage system, and the impassability of some paths.
The study includes the creation of a network of walking paths, the restoration of the linden alley along the historical staircase, and the rejuvenation of the fruit orchards. A meadow or space with play and fitness elements is also planned to be created on the castle hill.
