Nebovidy (Brno Region) - Nebovidy in the Brno region, which has 700 inhabitants, want to begin constructing a sports hall this year. It will also serve cultural and community activities. The estimated cost of the project is 27.5 million crowns. Mayor Milan Mojžíš justifies this extraordinary investment for the community by stating that there is a lack of a place where citizens can engage in sports and meet, he told ČTK.

The municipality has been saving for several years and wants to borrow more money from the bank. However, it now also has the opportunity to obtain half of the necessary amount from a grant from the Ministry of Education. "We submitted an application, and now we are waiting for how the officials will score it, whether we will receive the funds. It would greatly help us," said Mojžíš.

A few years ago, the only social space in the pub ceased to exist, and since then, sports, social, and community activities in Nebovidy have been dwindling. The village does not have a traditional hall like the one built by the Sokol organization during the First Republic. "Children who play sports have to travel to Brno; we have nothing to offer them here," remarked Mojžíš.

The new hall will have a court for various sports, standard sports facilities, and also a theater stage. "It will also have one upper floor, where there could be a gym or some office space. Once we start building, we would like to have clarity about the investor who will rent this space," said Mojžíš.

The municipality already has a construction permit for the hall to be built in the center of the village next to the kindergarten's garden. "In May, we could have a contractor selected, and then we can start building. The construction itself should take a year," mentioned Mojžíš. According to him, even during the preparations, interested parties from neighboring municipalities, like Ořechov or Moravany, expressed a desire to utilize the hall.
