The NKÚ has commenced the construction of its headquarters, the costs will be approximately 900 million CZK

Prague – The construction of the new headquarters of the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) began today in Prague with the laying of the foundation stone. The office is currently located in rented premises and has been striving for its own building for several years. The start of construction was announced by the office spokesperson Jana Gabrielová. The total costs for the construction of the new headquarters will amount to approximately 900 million crowns, of which 230 million crowns will be taken from the office's savings from previous years, while the rest will come from the state budget.

Employees could move into the new building in the second quarter of 2023. The new headquarters, consisting of two office buildings, will be located in the area of the former Holešovice Brewery. The archive and the Parliamentary Library of the House of Representatives will also be housed there. The construction will be carried out by the company Porr.

"I am glad that the NKÚ will finally have its own dignified headquarters after years, which it deserves as a constitutional institution and will share it with another constitutional institution. This is the culmination of an effort that began with the first president of the NKÚ Lubomír Voleník," said NKÚ president Miloslav Kala.

According to his spokesperson, President Miloš Zeman was also supposed to attend the laying of the foundation stone. However, he is in the hospital following an arm injury on Tuesday. The event was attended by Vice President of the Chamber Vojtěch Filip (KSČM) and Finance Minister Alena Schillerová (for ANO), among others.

The new headquarters will have low energy consumption, environmentally friendly operation, plans for a green roof and partially green facade, and intelligent building management, the spokesperson described. Charging stations for electric cars and bicycles will also be available, she added. The two buildings, six and seven stories tall, will not exceed the height of the surrounding buildings. They will offer employees 5,000 m² of office space. The underground garages will provide space for 123 vehicles, while additional parking spaces will be available in the courtyard. The headquarters will also feature a conference hall, a children's group, and a cafeteria accessible to the public.
