Nová Paka - Nová Paka in the Jičín region will begin preparations for the construction of a new bus terminal. The construction at the site of the current station is expected to cost a maximum of 60 million crowns, said Nová Paka's mayor Josef Cogan to ČTK.

"We are working on the preparation of project documentation for the bus terminal, which should be completed by mid-next year," said Cogan. The city hopes to obtain a grant for the construction. "If we obtain the funds, we would like to start construction in 2018. If we had to pay for the station's construction from our own funds, we will start it only after the renovation of the City Cultural Center and the reconstruction of Masaryk Square," added the mayor.

According to him, the new bus terminal should offer facilities for passengers and also parking spaces. "It should be a modern terminal that meets current requirements and the size of the Novopacka region," said Cogan. Nová Paka has previously approached 12 architectural offices, which submitted eight proposals for the possible design of the terminal. The city leadership then allowed residents to choose from three options in a poll held during the October elections.

The proposal to build a new terminal at the site of the current one received the most support, with 63 percent of a total of 2,722 voters voting for it. 22 percent of voters expressed support for relocating the station to a new site, while the remaining voters wanted to maintain the current state. There are a total of 7,563 eligible voters in Nová Paka.

In the Hradec Králové Region, new bus terminals have been established in several towns in recent years; for example, in 2014, bus stations in Náchod and Nový Bydžov in Hradec Králové began operating.
