The new development at Dornychu already has a foundation and is starting to rise above the ground

Brno – The new development in Brno at Dornych, which will replace the former Prior next to the main train station, already has its foundation slab and the first building has reached the height of the first floor. It will be a future hotel. Conversely, in the eastern part, the construction pit is still exposed, where the builders are working on the underground floors. The developer Crestyl has also started negotiations with tenants for the future retail and office spaces, and a large part has been provisionally occupied, manager Martin Štěpánek, who is in charge of the entire project, said to journalists today.

There is still a year and a half to go until the opening, however, passersby can already see gradual changes as the builders are moving out of the pit above ground level. "Currently, all our efforts are directed towards the reinforced concrete skeleton. The three underground floors were the most complicated," Štěpánek said. So far, the builders have used about 44,000 cubic meters of concrete, which is approximately half of the total planned volume.

Gradually, six buildings will be created, and the entire area will be accessible to the public and connected by pedestrian paths from the station, from Dornych, Vaňkovka, and from the viaduct across Hybešova Street. In the westernmost building, there will be a hotel for which a tenant has already been secured by the developer, offering 170 rooms. Thus, this location will have its second hotel in a short time; the Clarion hotel commenced operations nearby earlier this spring. Another building will contain 186 rental apartments, and the other four buildings will have offices and retail spaces. "We will offer 60,000 square meters of offices and other commercial spaces. We now know that part will be occupied by EUC clinics and Canadian Medical, which will provide practices and pharmacies. Scott.Weber Workspace will open coworking spaces on 5,000 square meters," Štěpánek said.

The buildings will have a maximum of eight floors and will be approximately as tall as the adjoining buildings to the south. There will be 800 parking spaces in the underground floors.

Currently, construction limits direct access from the train station underpass to Vaňkovka. Further restrictions should be short-term when surrounding surfaces are repaired before the completion of construction, and also when the footbridge is connected to the Vaňkovka shopping center.
