The new primary school in Mstětice (Zeleneč) will become a natural center for educational, cultural, and sports life in the entire locality. The project by the studio Perspektiv, which won 3rd place in the architectural competition, was ultimately selected for realization. The proposal convinced the investor with its clear urban concept, quality operational solution, and emphasis on sustainability and long-term value for the community.
The architectural concept is based on the idea of "the school as a living organism for children and the community." The positioning of the building on the site creates two distinct yet interconnected worlds – a vibrant public forecourt connected to the street network and a quieter green school garden. The school naturally connects to the newly emerging sports park, thus becoming part of a broader landscape structure.
"We designed the school as an open organism that grows along with the community. It is not just a building for teaching, but a place for meetings, movement, and inspiration. We believe that architecture can actively support the way children learn, collaborate, and perceive the world around them,” says Ján Antal, founder of Perspektiv studio.
The massing solution responds to the scale of the surrounding development through a low-rise atrium structure. The building is divided into four teaching clusters, a gymnasium, and a central shared space, which is reflected in both the interior organization and the exterior expression of the structure. The school is compact yet open – facing the public space and the garden. The operation is designed so that selected parts of the building can also be used independently for extracurricular activities, transforming the building into a cultural center for the community.
"It was key for us to create an environment that respects the scale of the surroundings while offering a contemporary, flexible model of education. The cluster concept allows for clear organization of operations and supports the community character of the school. We are pleased that the investor chose to implement this proposal, which connects architecture, landscape, and community life into one functional whole,” adds Markéta Pavlunová, Head of Architecture & Competition at Perspektiv studio.
The internal arrangement works with the principle of a "children's village," where each cluster has its own "heart" – a space for meeting, collaboration, and informal learning. The central hall, auditorium, library, multipurpose hall, and specialized classrooms create a rich environment supporting various forms of education and community life. Learning naturally continues in the garden, on green terraces, or in sports and play zones, which are integral parts of the design.
The structural system is based on a rational grid of CLT panels, that is, massive cross-laminated timber. The wooden elements are revealed in the interior and contribute to creating a pleasant microclimate and a strong atmosphere in the space. The building combines wood with exposed concrete, which ensures fire resistance and acoustic comfort. The energy concept includes the use of photovoltaics with battery storage, a ground-source heat pump, a retention tank for irrigation, and a recuperation system, thereby fulfilling the school's ambition to be efficient and ready for the future.
