Opava - A new residential building for seniors with fifty small apartments is expected to start construction in Opava, probably in September. In the summer, an archaeological survey of the construction site will begin. The costs for the planned building will amount to 99 million crowns. Most of the expenses will be covered by the city, which aims to obtain a grant for part of the costs. The Ministry for Local Development is expected to contribute, with the city hall requesting 9.6 million. Opava's mayor Radim Křupala (ČSSD) said this today to ČTK.
The city received a total of four bids. The winner of the competition was the company Metrostav. "We expect to start the archaeological survey in the summer. The construction could then begin in September," he stated. The new retirement home will have 52 small apartments. Seniors will pay 57 crowns per square meter.
The building will have five floors, and it will include 52 small residential units with an area up to 50 square meters. Sixteen of these units will be fully barrier-free, and care services will be provided there as well. The apartments will be primarily for seniors. The care apartments will be rented under special conditions only to individuals in unfavorable social situations and with reduced self-sufficiency due to being over 65 years old or health conditions.
The new residential building will be managed by the city's contributory organization Seniorcentrum. The organization employs 19 people and manages 136 apartments in three retirement homes designated for senior living. It also provides care services. More than 200 clients utilize these services, such as meal delivery. The company's annual turnover is around 14 million crowns, in addition, the organization receives a grant from the city of approximately 1.7 million crowns.
