Nový Jičín – Nový Jičín has selected an external city architect who will provide the city and the public with advice and consultations in architecture, urbanism, spatial planning, and heritage care. Among 11 candidates, the committee unanimously chose Martin Materna from Opava. He will have regular consulting hours starting from June 7. This was announced to ČTK by the spokesperson for the Nový Jičín city hall, Marie Machková.
The architect will not only be an advisor but also a professional opponent in significant projects, such as the construction of new sports facilities or the revitalization of housing estates. "The city architect should participate in establishing rules for managing the public space of the city, streets, and parks. City furniture should have a unified appearance," said Machková. The city hall expects that cooperation with the expert will also bring proposals to address advertising smog in the heritage reserve.
"We were pleased by the great interest of architects from all over the country. This, in our opinion, means that the candidates trust that we are serious about improving public space and that Nový Jičín has significant potential in this regard. We also hope that the city architect will help us popularize this topic and bring it closer to the people," said Nový Jičín Deputy Mayor Ondřej Syrovátka (Green Party).
