Kladno – It should be clear by April regarding the reconstruction or construction of a new main railway station in Kladno, according to the Railway Administration. The building is part of a railway modernization project in Kladno. Its condition is worse than the designers had anticipated. The Railway Administration, which is the investor of the modernization, commissioned a study for the construction of a new building together with the city. The proposal is currently being developed. After its completion, an assessment of both options, namely reconstruction or new construction, will follow, including the financial costs, stated the spokesperson for the Railway Administration, Nela Eberl Friebová, to ČTK.

"A scheduled supplementary survey was conducted in the Kladno station building, which could only be carried out after it was cleared. Excavated probes revealed different foundational conditions of the building and encountered groundwater," described Eberl Friebová. According to her, this indicates a significantly worse condition compared to initial assumptions.

The modernization of the section between the Kladno main station and the Ostrovec stop fully began last year. The section will be double-tracked and electrified after reconstruction. The station building was to undergo renovation, and a new transfer hub for public transportation will also be created. Last year, Kladno Town Hall spokesperson Vít Heral indicated that the city would not insist on preserving the station building in its current condition and extent at all costs; however, a condition for the potential creation of a new facility should be the highest possible architectural quality of the new building, according to him.

A petition recently appeared on social media, which among other things calls on Kladno and the Railway Administration to try to preserve and reconstruct the station or to announce an architectural competition in case of demolition. The petition was authored by Kladno opposition councilor Anna Gamanová (STAN). So far, several hundred people have signed it.

The Kladno railway section is part of the route between Kladno, Prague, and Václav Havel Airport in Prague. The Railway Administration plans to start operations in Kladno in September next year. The renewal of the over five-kilometer Kladno section of the line and the adjacent buildings will cost approximately 3.7 billion crowns excluding VAT, including underpasses, platforms, and similar infrastructure.
