Třebíč – A long-prepared renovation of the central Karlovo náměstí (Carl's Square) in Třebíč, covering an area of over two hectares, should begin in the autumn. The project documentation needed for issuing the building permit should be completed by the end of February. It will also provide the work schedule and estimated costs, said Mayor Pavel Pacal (Pro Třebíč) to ČTK. According to earlier information, the city estimates around 100 million crowns for the renovation of the square.
The renovation of the square will be one of the largest investment projects in Třebíč in recent years, according to the mayor. The city council has allocated the first five million crowns for it in this year's budget proposal. It also plans to purchase the land that is the only part of the square not owned by the city. It concerns a 18-square-meter section of pavement by one of the buildings. "We believe that given all the activities taking place in Karlovo náměstí, it is not entirely ideal for those 18 meters to belong to someone else," said Pacal.
According to the mayor, this is an old matter that was discovered only during the digitization at the cadastral office. The strip of land was once released during the reconstruction of a building and now belongs to two owners. "I think even they were surprised when it was discovered they owned 18 meters in the square in Třebíč," remarked Pacal. The land will not be cheap; the city council discussed buying it for a price of 6000 crowns per square meter this week. The final decision will be made by the city council.
The city hall is already considering a different location for this year's Christmas markets. Given that technical networks, which are numerous in the square, will need to be reconstructed, it is not possible, according to the mayor, to complete the work on, for example, a quarter of the square and then continue with another section. "It is not yet possible to say how it will really look. We are waiting for the project documentation to be available," he said.
The project for the square includes surface modifications, changes in traffic organization, the establishment of resting areas near new fountains, the renewal of street furniture, lighting, and greenery.
