Brno - Experts will assess the current form of the unique functionalist public transport stop in Brno on Údolní Street during a local investigation. It continues to be at risk of losing its heritage protection due to careless reconstruction. No decision has yet been made, said Simona Cigánková, spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture.

The Ministry of Culture has been dealing with the proposal to revoke heritage protection since last year. The proceedings were initiated based on a suggestion from restorer Radek Ryšánek. According to him, the monument has been irreparably damaged. "Approximately half of the original construction material has been demolished, leaving only reinforcement bars. This original material can never be restored," Ryšánek stated. He also mentioned that the original construction technology or original ceramic cladding has been irreparably destroyed, and the underground part with the toilets has been filled with rubble and covered with concrete. According to Ryšánek, the building designed by architect Oskar Poříška has lost its technological and formal authenticity.

The Brno-Center district, which initiated the repairs of the stop, had to change the construction company and only restored the stop this summer after more than a year and a half of repairs. "Our experts are now awaiting a local investigation into the final form of the completed reconstruction. Subsequently, the acquired photographic documentation of the current state will be submitted for expert assessment to the relevant committee of the Ministry of Culture," Cigánková stated.

The stop designed by Oskar Poříška has stood since 1926 and has not been reconstructed during that entire time, already being in poor condition. The Brno-Center district paid 2.7 million crowns for the reconstruction. The work was prolonged because the original company that started the work in 2015 deviated from the project documentation, after which the district selected a new company in a tender.

Architect Poříška designed, for example, the Convalaria building at the corner of Česká and Veselá streets, apartments in Bohunice, and a large complex of buildings for the Social Institute of the City of Brno.
