Olomouc – Olomouc will be dedicated to design and trends in creative industries in November, as the second edition of the event called Design Days will take place. It will offer visitors exhibitions, seminars, discussions, workshops, as well as a traditional design market. The event includes nearly a hundred program points. There will also be presentations of local creators, the organizers of the event told journalists today. This year, in addition to the Olomouc city hall and the Innovation Center of the Olomouc Region, the event is also supported by Palacký University.

"This is the second edition, building on the successful first edition, which was a pilot both in the sense of wanting to dedicate November in Olomouc to the creative sector. Therefore, we decided on design in the broadest possible sense. It has proven to be a direction that has attracted the public's attention, which is why we decided to expand the event even further in the second edition. From the feedback, I suspect it won't be the last edition," said Viktor Tichák (Pirates), Deputy Mayor of Olomouc, to ČTK today. According to him, the festival aims to popularize the cultural and creative sectors, connect creators and the public, and also spark interest in creative fields, design, architecture, or artistic crafts.

This year's edition will feature 96 events, 33 creative workshops and family-friendly activities, as well as 13 exhibitions. Among them will be the opening exhibition Harvest 2024 at Studio G21, a curatorial selection of products by regional creators from various artistic fields, an exhibition of design footwear at Café New One, an exhibition of local designers who will transform store windows into galleries in the streets of the city, and an exhibition of floral objects in the orangery in Smetanovy Sady, where there will also be an exhibition Generation Brussels: ten centenarians, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of ten personalities of Czech glass and ceramics design. Nearly forty partners are involved in the program, including museums, libraries, and galleries.

According to Tomáš Dostál, director of the Innovation Center of the Olomouc Region, the number of events has doubled compared to the first edition. "The center of activity is Olomouc, but we are also managing to push the events further into the region. The first weekend in November, we are preparing Open Studios, which we are organizing in Jeseník, Přerov, and Šumperk. In these cities, we are preparing 18 workshops in creative spaces that people do not usually have access to," Dostál stated.

For interested parties, a dozen discussions and lectures are also prepared. There will be three dozen workshops and creative workshops. The Moravian Theatre is also involved, offering an audiovisual show and interactive discussions, and during the festival, it will officially open its new intimate space on Sokolská Street called Sedmička.

The conclusion of Olomouc Design Days will belong to the Design Market, which will fill the spaces of Konvikt with author fashion, cosmetics, and home decorations from independent local creators on the last weekend of November. More information can be found on the festival's website.
