Slaný (Kladensko) - The first phase of the revitalization of the historical center in Slaný, Kladensko, was 6.5 million CZK more expensive and five months longer than expected. The reason was complications with a broken sewer and archaeological finds. The reconstruction of the street was originally supposed to cost around 20 million CZK and was set to finish in April. The next part of the reconstruction of the historical core will likely continue next year in the pedestrian zone on Husova Street, local deputy mayor Jaroslav Hložek (Volba pro Slaný) told reporters today. It will cost over 40 million crowns.

The start of work on the pedestrian zone will depend on the weather, according to Hložek. The next phase of the reconstruction will involve replacing the sewer, which in some places is up to four meters underground, and the city leadership anticipates that this work cannot be done in winter. "Water and sewer connections at some buildings are very old, and the networks are incredibly deep. We need to meet with the designer to find out what can be done and whether this work can be carried out in winter," Hložek stated. According to him, the likely start date for the work will be next spring.
In Husova Street, there will be new sidewalks, road surfaces, public lighting, and sewers. "It will be done in several phases. Access to the buildings will not be completely easy," the deputy mayor added. In Vinařického Street, workers are currently completing the final tasks. The repairs primarily involved modernizing the utility networks and the road bridge. Due to unexpected archaeological finds, the city had to increase investments, thanks to which people walking through the renovated street will see the foundations of the Prague Gate or the so-called barbican, which in the past allowed better protection of the entrance gate from enemies.
A team of architects led by Jaroslav Sýkora has been preparing the revitalization study for several years. Experts divided Slaný into 22 parts, which will be repaired gradually. The streets of the historical core have not been significantly reconstructed for a long time. According to the architects, the traces of the last reconstructions are more or less harsh interventions into the urban heritage zone, introducing foreign materials or inappropriate elements of urban furniture. In total, the city will pay 300 to 400 million crowns for the revitalization from its budget and grants.
