Slaný (Kladensko) - Extensive repairs of the historical center in Slaný in Kladensko will continue this year on the pedestrian zone in Husova Street. New sidewalks, roads, public lighting, and sewage systems will be created there. The costs are estimated to exceed 40 million crowns. The city is preparing a tender, and the work is expected to start in May, said Mayor Ivo Rubík (ODS) to ČTK. So far, the city has completed repairs on Vinařická Street for 31 million crowns. In total, it will spend 300 to 400 million crowns on revitalization from the budget and grants. According to Rubík, the work on the pedestrian zone will be divided into several parts. Husova Street will not be completely closed to allow for the supply of shops. For instance, during the repairs, the arcades in the house U Zmatlíků will be removed. The city and the owners of the house agreed on this with the conservationists. "The arcade has never been historically there; it was created relatively recently," noted Rubík. According to Rubík, the main problem of the repairs will be the work on the engineering networks, which will pass near the foundations of the historic Lounská Gate. "We chose the easiest solution with minimal interventions in those corridors; the archaeologists will not have many opportunities for their activities here because the sewage basically runs in the existing line," added Rubík. Archaeological surveys indeed slow down most construction work in the city center. The repairs on Husova Street will end at the border of Masarykovo Square, where revitalization of the center is expected to continue in the future, according to the mayor. A team of architects led by Jaroslav Sýkora has been preparing the revitalization study for several years. Experts divided Slaný into 22 sections, which will be repaired gradually. No one has significantly reconstructed the streets of the historic core for a long time. According to the architects, the traces of the last reconstructions are mostly damaging interventions in the urban conservation area and introduce foreign materials or inappropriate elements of urban furnishings into it. According to experts, the historical center of Slaný is conceptually and stylistically unorganized, and the street layout is still influenced by the former traffic solution when Masarykovo Square served as a bus station.
