Ostrov (Karlovy Vary) - Ostrov was successful in the second round of the EU grant application under the Joint Regional Operational Program (SROP) with its project Ostrov - City of Monuments. This will be a continuation of the successful event Historical Ostrov. The costs of implementing the project are around 900,000 crowns, and the city will receive 75 percent of the amount from SROP. Fifteen percent comes from the Karlovy Vary Region and ten percent is contributed by the city. Richard Štěpánovský, the project manager, said this today.
The implementation of the project Ostrov - City of Monuments is planned from April to October. The project includes, among other things, the creation of regional and local promotional materials to support tourism, such as brochures or websites. Furthermore, the city intends to organize two professional seminars. The first will focus on the possibilities for tourism development with the potential of baroque monuments, while the second will focus on the collection of architecture from the traditionalism of the 1950s, stated project manager Richard Štěpánovský.
The project also includes the establishment of a guidance system for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians to the monuments in Ostrov. Additionally, an information and orientation system should be created in the areas of the monuments, especially in the castle area and the monastery area. "The information and orientation system in the castle area and the monastery area will be supplemented with numerous historical paintings and engravings, allowing tourists to compare panoramic views from different times and the present," stated Štěpánovský.
A partner in the project is the Association of the Ore Mountains - West, which will assist the city in distributing promotional materials at tourism fairs in the Czech Republic and abroad. Therefore, Ostrov focuses not only on its monuments but also intends to promote the entire microregion. According to Štěpánovský, Ostrov will thus serve as the gateway to this area. "We want to stimulate the creation of an axis for tourism development of regional significance: Karlovy Vary - Ostrov - Jáchymov - Boží Dar - Klínovec (Ore Mountains) - Germany," added Štěpánovský.
The project Historical Ostrov, which Ostrov - City of Monuments will continue, concludes this year. It focused on the reconstruction, accessibility, and revitalization of the historical part of the city. Its budget is around 145 million crowns, of which about 106 million crowns was obtained from SROP. The funds were used for the restoration of buildings that had not previously been utilized for tourism. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure appropriate and sufficient promotion, stated the manager.
