Pardubice - Pardubice is preparing an extension of a 25-meter indoor swimming pool for approximately 50 million crowns. It should be located in the gap between the aquacenter and the Ideon exhibition center, with the land belonging to the city. The investment plan will be approved by the city council during the budget discussion in December, said the deputy mayor Helena Dvořáčková (ANO).

"The construction is conditioned on receiving a grant from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports," Dvořáčková stated. The city has already submitted a request for 20 million crowns, and the remainder should be included in the budget.

The extension, designed as a concrete monolith on pillars, will closely connect to the aquapark. Visitors will be able to walk through doors in the glass wall directly from the space of the current 50-meter pool to the smaller pool. "If everything goes according to our plans, construction could begin in the spring, with completion within 12 months," said Jiří Vysoudil, director of the Pardubice Swimming Complex. The facilities for changing rooms, showers, and parking should be sufficient even after the extension.

Pardubice modernized and expanded the current swimming complex for 544 million crowns excluding VAT, which opened to the public in June 2012. Before the reconstruction, the aquapark was visited by about 300,000 people annually, and now there are 150,000 more. "We rank among the top five in visitor numbers among comparable facilities in the Czech Republic," Vysoudil mentioned.
