Pardubice - Pardubice will start construction of a twenty-five meter swimming pool around July. The city has already selected a company; this week the deadline for appeals by participants in the tender has ended. The current capacity of the swimming complex is insufficient; another sports facility is needed. Jiří Vysoudil, the director of the swimming complex, said this to ČTK.
Due to the planned construction, however, the complex will not open the summer beach with the swimming pool this year. The construction company will disconnect the water and move the technology for the swimming pool elsewhere. Without them, the beach cannot operate. "Even the comfort for people, when there will be construction going on, wouldn't be great," Vysoudil added.
Pardubice postponed the construction of the pool last year because they did not obtain subsidies. They received a promise for the first time, but the Ministry of Education halted the payment due to a case involving subsidies in sports. The city was unsuccessful a second time.
The selection of the construction company also didn’t go well; initially, the winning company withdrew from the contract, then the offers were over 60 million crowns, ten million more than estimated by the designers.
The chosen company will build the pool for more than 50 million crowns, and the city hall will cover the costs from its budget. A new pool is more than necessary, Vysoudil pointed out. Schools have mandatory swimming lessons, which is why the number of courses for children is increasing, and lanes are also being booked by athletes, which affects swimming for the public.
