Pardubice - The Railway Administration wants to announce a tender by the end of the year for the modernization of the main train station building in Pardubice. The building is a protected monument and is one of the most significant functionalist structures in the country. Pavel Paidar, the director of the construction preparation department of the Railway Administration, said this today. He participated in a transport conference in the regional city.

"We have approved the project documentation. By the end of the year, we should issue the tender. As soon as we select a contractor, we should begin. Tenders usually take five months unless there are some appeals. Because it is a protected monument and an extensive building, the implementation will last until 2027," said Paidar.

The costs will be around 980 million crowns excluding VAT. The station and hotel were designed by architect Karel Řepa together with Josef Danda and Karel Kalvoda. The state contract was designed in the late 1940s, and construction work lasted until 1958.

In Pardubice, the Railway Administration is also continuing the modernization of the railway junction, which began in September 2020. The former station hotel building has been refurbished, where a state organization has an education and economic center. The reconstruction of the city's functionalist high-rise landmark cost 574 million crowns.

According to Paidar, the work on the corridor, which costs 6.4 billion crowns, is nearing completion. The platforms have been repaired, a new fifth platform has been created, and the junction will have new signaling equipment, overhead lines, and bridges. The entire system will be controlled from Prague. Around mid-year, a footbridge over the corridor will be opened, connecting the station to the Dukla housing estate. A new stop, Pardubice centrum, will be in operation from June 9.
