Most - Beaches and floating piers at Lake Most will be funded by the state; a project worth 79 million crowns has been approved by an inter-ministerial committee. This was reported today by Alena Sedláčková, spokesperson for the Most city hall. The municipality aims to open the recreational area to the public by mid-2018.

Beaches will be created at the lake, floating piers for access to the water will be built, as well as a boat harbor and facilities for the water rescue service. There are also plans for bank stabilization. "Construction is expected to begin next year, with completion anticipated by mid-2018," said Sedláčková.

Lake Most, formed by flooding a pit after coal mining, is currently officially closed to the public. Builders have already started work in the spring on the reconstruction of the road between Most and the municipality of Mariánské Radčice. The second phase includes connecting the lake to adjacent roads and bringing utility networks to the lake.

The third phase of construction around the lake involves creating sandy and pebbly beaches and a recreational area in the southern part of the lake. The investor is the Ministry of Finance, which will cover all costs.

The land is owned by the Ústí Fuel Company. Minister of Industry Jan Mládek (CSSD) stated in May that the state will likely transfer the recultivated lands around Lakes Most and Milada near Ústí nad Labem to municipalities, partially free of charge.

Lake Most covers an area of 309 hectares, has a circumference of about ten kilometers, and a maximum depth of 75 meters. Filling it began in 2008 and was completed six years later.
