Brno - Work on the completion of the reconstruction of Bosonožské Square in Brno-Bosonohy will begin during the summer holidays, the local city council has signed a contract with the contractor. The second and third phases of the repair will cost nearly 18 million crowns, while the first phase was completed last year. The mayor of the district, Martin Černý (KDU-ČSL), told journalists today.

During the first phase of the repairs, a large modern fountain was created in the square, and the construction company modified the space in front of the Chapel of Saint Florian and the adjacent paved areas. Gardeners planted more than two thousand flowers in the flowerbeds, and four new lime trees were added to the tree-lined avenues.

The second and third phases, which are expected to be completed next July, include the construction of a rainwater retention tank, from which an underground irrigation gravity system will deliver water to the park areas in the square, the revitalization of the park near the primary school, and the construction of concrete steps that will serve as a stage for cultural events. The project includes the extension of the illuminated promenade walkway made of granite cobblestones, which will lead across the entire square from the statue of Saint Florian to the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

"The reconstruction of the square is essential for improving our public space in Bosonohy. The new park areas, playgrounds, and sidewalks will support community life and enable better use of the square for various cultural events. We will create a space where citizens will have the opportunity not only to relax but also to meet," added Černý. Until the start of the repairs, the square primarily served as a parking lot.

The municipal district has obtained grants for the repair from European and national funds in the amount of 13 million crowns, with the city of Brno adding 6.5 million crowns. In total, the reconstruction will cost 35 million crowns.
