Prague - Prague has completed a study that is intended to serve as a basis for amending the zoning plan in the area of the Bubny train station. The study, which is available to ČTK, includes plans for the construction of a northern vestibule for the Vltavská metro station, the creation of two city boulevards on Argentine and Brazilian streets, and a new square featuring the former train station building, which could house a Holocaust museum. Among the authors of the study are architect Vít Máslo and transportation expert Václav Malina. The zoning plan amendment should allow for the overall redevelopment of up to 100 hectares in the city center. The city council of Prague has already discussed its preparation several times, but decisions have always been postponed. The council is expected to revisit this issue at a meeting next week. "Considering that a large part of experts and the general public largely agree with the study, I believe we are on the right path to breathe new life into Bubny. If there is the will of the councilors, we will finally create a place for dignified living in Bubny within about three years," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Hudeček (TOP 09). According to the study, the primary task is to connect the currently separated areas of Lower Holešovice and Letná and create a center for the entire locality. The transportation solution does not foresee a tunnel for the deepening of Bubenská Street, which is being discussed in Prague 7. Two city boulevards should be created on Argentine and Brazilian streets while the residential parts of Holešovice and Letná should be quieted. At the western edge of the area, a parking lot could be created for visitors of Stromovka and the Holešovice sports hall. A northern vestibule for the Vltavská metro station should be built, which will serve as the main transfer hub. A new train stop, Prague Bubny, on the Prague - Kladno line with a branch to the airport, should also be located here. The study further proposes a new north-south tram connection. There are also considerations for leading trams through the middle of the Holešovice market and connecting Dělnická and Veletržní streets. In contrast to the current zoning plan, which anticipates the creation of a large park in Bubny, the study proposes to divide the greenery into smaller urban parks along a north-south axis. A new park will be located on the northern Holešovice waterfront. The southern waterfront will be connected by two footbridges to Štvanice Island. The study plans to preserve several historical railway buildings from the second half of the 19th century, for example, the former railway building could house a Holocaust museum with a new square around it. The former power plant, waterworks, and railway workshops could also serve cultural or commercial purposes. Most of the area of the former train station will be designated for housing or administrative development. Greenery should occupy 15 hectares. The Bubny - Zátory area is a major development zone in the center of the capital. Many plots belong to private owners and developers who plan to invest tens of billions of crowns into construction.
