Prague - The Prague municipal government plans modifications to the Central Park in South City, which is located between the Opatov and Háje metro stations. City councilors today decided to issue a tender for the modifications with an estimated value of 78 million crowns excluding VAT. The representatives will still vote on announcing the competition. The city plans to build a café, toilets, and an amphitheater in the park, among other things.

In the past, the city hall has modified parts of the park, and the currently planned contract should be final. "The goal of the construction is to transform the previously unfinished area of the park by adding facilities that are currently significantly lacking," states the approved document. The city leadership also approved a series of land exchanges today, through which the city hall is to acquire parts of the park currently in private ownership.

The modifications concern the central part of the park, which constitutes approximately two-thirds of its area. According to the approved document, the work will include, in addition to the construction of a café with amenities and an amphitheater, also landscaping, modifications of sidewalks and bike paths, adding benches, grills, and drinking fountains, building drainage, planting greenery, and lighting. The work is expected to begin this year and conclude in 2024.

The preparation for the modifications of the park began in 2006. Since then, primarily landscaping has been carried out in the western and eastern parts, modeling the area, and paths with public lighting have been constructed.
