Prague - The abandoned historic house of Eliška Purkyňová at Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6 should serve the public again in the future. Services for seniors will return to the unused complex of buildings, and a community center will be created, said Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09) in an interview with ČTK. It will be an investment in the hundreds of millions of crowns. Three houses on Šolínova Street were in unsatisfactory technical condition, which is why the retirement home moved to new premises in Břevnov two years ago. The complex of buildings at Vítězné náměstí has been empty since then. “This is one of the oldest houses providing services for seniors in Europe,” the mayor reminds us. “The spaces inside are also unique; each of the houses has a large inner courtyard, and there is also a garden in the courtyard,” he described. According to Kolář, the original function of the house, which has always served socially disadvantaged people, must be preserved in the future. The retirement home could be combined with other public services, such as a café, a leisure center, or a kindergarten. “Different generations could thus meet in one place,” the mayor believes. The city hall will not be able to handle the demanding investment on its own. Therefore, it relies, among other sources, on EU funding. In addition, Prague 6 has long-term plans for the renovation of the historic Šatovka homestead in Divoká Šárka, which will serve seniors. A home for the chronically ill is to be established on Drnovská Street.
