Prague - The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has announced a tender with an estimated value of 160 million crowns excluding VAT for the reconstruction of the ceiling slab at the Muzeum metro station. This information was obtained by ČTK from the public procurement bulletin. The company's spokesperson Aneta Řehková stated that the work at the station will be part of the construction of a tram line in the upper part of Wenceslas Square, which is expected to start soon. At the beginning of the year, DPP signed a contract with Eurovia CS, which will build the line for approximately 1.24 billion crowns excluding VAT.
"As part of the construction for the 'Wenceslas Square Tram Line' project, the repair of the ceiling slabs in the underpass of the Muzeum metro station will also take place, as well as the construction of a retention tank for rainwater to water the trees and the relocation of utility networks," the spokesperson stated. She added that the ceiling slab in the station is original and does not have the load-bearing capacity for tram operations. "So we are combining two things, reconstruction and load capacity increase," she communicated.
Trams in the upper part of the square operated until 1980. Compared to the original state, the tracks will be located on the side of the square, and a promenade will be created in the middle. Workers will repair sidewalks and roadways and plant greenery. The city also plans to reduce car traffic in the square, which will partially run on tram tracks.
Wenceslas Square is 682 meters long and approximately 60 meters wide. In 2020, reconstruction of the lower part of the square began, which the city mostly completed in the fall of the year before last. Subsequently, work continued on two smaller areas near the tracks from Jindřišská to Vodičkova Street, which were already preparations for the construction of the tram line in the upper part.
