285 years ago, the architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl passed away

Prague - One of the most significant and original architects of Central European Baroque, Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl, died in his native Prague on December 7, 1723. The creator and most prominent representative of Baroque Gothic, a unique architectural style that combines dynamic Baroque with the expressive means of Gothic, lived to be only 46 years old and was buried in the Church of St. John under the Rock in Malá Strana.
He primarily worked for religious orders, but he also did not shy away from commissions for the nobility. His impressive buildings are scattered throughout the Czech basin. The most famous of these is perhaps his masterpiece - the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora near Žďár nad Sázavou, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. The name of its creator - Santini-Aichl - is borne by asteroid number 37699, discovered in January 1996 by the couple Jan and Miloš Tichý at Kleť.
