335 years ago, the prominent architect Santini-Aichl was born

Prague - 335 years ago, on February 4, 1677, one of the most significant and original architects of Central European Baroque Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel was born into the family of an Italian stonemason in Prague. He mainly worked for religious orders but also took on commissions for the nobility.
Santini's impressive structures are scattered throughout the Czech basin. They can be found in Sedlec near Kutná Hora, Plasy, Mariánský Týnec, Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and Křtiny near Brno. The pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora near Žďár nad Sázavou is considered Santini's masterpiece, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
The creator and most prominent representative of Baroque Gothic, a unique architectural style combining dynamic Baroque with the expressive means of Gothic, lived only 46 years (he died on December 7, 1723) and was buried in the Church of St. John under the Rock in Malá Strana in his native Prague.
