Brno - The light fountain in the shape of a curtain is a landmark of the newly renovated area in front of the Janáček Theater in Brno. The relaxation zone was created above the garages that a private investor built underground and which have served drivers since last year. The work on the surface cost more than 54 million crowns, the city council's press center announced to journalists.
The area in front of the theater alternates granite pavement with areas of irrigated grass. There are simple white benches for sitting. The fountain is enhanced by ten water jets. The operation of the jets can be synchronized with the lights, allowing the water to create various patterns and change colors. It is also possible to project onto the water wall in the fountain.
However, the water elements will only be in operation until Wednesday, November 12. After that, they will be winterized until spring.
This year, workers also worked on the adjoining terrace of the Janáček Theater. The staircase next to the statue of Leoš Janáček was dismantled during the first phase of the park reconstruction at Koliště. The individual stone steps were numbered and cleaned by craftsmen. They have now been placed back in their original position.
On Tuesday, builders will also return Janáček's statue to its pedestal, which was dismantled in November 2012 due to the garage construction. The life-sized statue by Stanislav Hanzl, Otakar Oplatek, and Vilém Zavřel from 1975 has meanwhile been restored by conservators. They cleaned it of dust, addressed rust issues, and created a new patina. The restoration of the statue cost 116,000 crowns.
