Přerov - The leadership of the Přerov city hall has decided to undertake a large-scale renovation of one of the buildings in TGM Square in the city center. According to studies, the costs for repairing the building, which is in a dilapidated condition, will rise to approximately 24 million crowns. In the house from the early twentieth century, besides catering services, rooms for artists from the adjacent City House could also be created. Unlike Přerov, the Olomouc city hall has decided to sell similarly dilapidated properties in lucrative locations in the city.
"The city will undertake the repairs; we will try to obtain some subsidies. The building is now completely empty except for the buffet on the ground floor, and entry to the upper floors is prohibited for safety reasons," said Bohuslav Přidal, spokesman for the Přerov city hall, today to ČTK.
According to Jiří Lajtoch, deputy mayor of Přerov, there are not only rotten floors in the building but also a faulty roof. "After the renovation, there could be spaces for catering services, but also accommodation for artists from the City House. The rooms could be used, for instance, by the troupes performing there," Lajtoch added.
The city originally announced a tender for the renovation of the house. It was seeking a tenant who would reconstruct the property and could operate it for free for several decades afterward. However, the council members backed away from the plan after a warning from the Office for Competition Protection. According to them, it could be seen as unfair competition.
The possibility of selling the city house in the city center has been rejected by the Přerov city council. According to the city spokesman, this is also due to the fact that they do not want to dispose of real estate in lucrative locations. In contrast, the Olomouc city hall has taken this step. After the Salm Palace at the Upper Square, the Olomouc councilors have now decided to sell the house “At the Black Dog.” The reason is that the city does not have the funds for the renovation of the properties. According to the magistrate spokesman Martin Hála, the costs of renovating the buildings amount to tens of millions of crowns.
