Prague - The long-planned reconstruction of the Národní třída metro station is likely to start only in the fall. This was stated today by the spokesperson of the Prague Public Transport Company, Ilona Vysoudilová. The reconstruction was originally scheduled to begin last year, but it has been delayed by the prolonged construction of the multifunctional Copa Center above the station.

The director of the public transport company, Martin Dvořák, said at the beginning of February that the reconstruction would start in the spring and that the opening of the barrier-free lift to the station would be postponed because of it. According to Vysoudilová, however, the lift is expected to be ready for passengers probably in May, and the actual reconstruction of the station will begin in the second half of the year.
The multifunctional Copa Center is expected to cost around four billion crowns, and the investor is the Copa Group of Sebastian Pawlovský. It will have four underground and seven or eight above-ground floors. Six interconnected buildings are planned to host apartments, offices, arcades with shops, and parking for 250 cars. The building will be connected to the Tesco department store. It is not yet clear when the Copa Center will be completed.
Due to the station reconstruction, trains will only pass through the station for several months. According to earlier information, during the station reconstruction, the current entrance to the metro will disappear, and in its place, a new modern entrance will be created in the underground level. The vestibule will also be moved underground.
The barrier-free access to the station will consist of two pairs of connecting lifts that will connect with a corridor. The lifts will be accessed from Magdaléna Rettigová street, behind the Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity.
