Příbram - Příbram is investing in the reconstruction of Jiráskovy sady. In the first phase, which began in September, the work is focused on the area of the intersection of Hailova, Jiráskovy sady, and Gen. R. Tesaříka. Workers have restored the water and sewage systems and are adjusting the surfaces. Completion is planned for after winter, with costs estimated at around 7.7 million crowns, said Eva Švehlová, spokesperson for the Příbram municipality, to ČTK today.
The second phase will take place next year and will concern the area in front of the school buildings. This reconstruction is expected to be financially more demanding, with costs approaching 40 million CZK.
The municipality is also preparing another phase, the reconstruction of part of Jiráskovy sady towards Pražská street. To prepare the architectural study, it wants to involve the public. A consultation booth will be set up on Wednesday, November 13th, in Jiráskovy sady in the area of the bus stops in the direction of Prague to gather materials for the study. From 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, researchers will be collecting suggestions and opinions from the public on how the area is used, what issues exist, and what opportunities for future development are present.
Jiráskovy sady were established on Panská meadow between the brewery and the former shooting range from 1840 to 1841. In 1921, on the occasion of the seventieth birthday anniversary of writer Alois Jirásek, they received their name. Presumably, it was at that time that the linden trees were planted along the school buildings. In 1938, as the Second World War was approaching, a monument created by sculptor Václav Šára was placed there, featuring the main characters from Jirásek's novel Philosophical History.
