The first part of the renovation of the building that has disfigured Ostrava for years is complete

Ostrava - The company Red House Development managed to complete the first phase of the reconstruction of the reinforced concrete building opposite the House of Culture in the city of Ostrava on time, which had disfigured Ostrava for decades. This fulfilled one of the conditions set by the city, said the city hall spokesperson Andrea Vojkovská to ČTK today. The so-called skeleton is expected to be transformed by the end of the year into a multifunctional building with offices and living spaces.

The company Red House Development purchased the property for approximately 53 million crowns in 2008. In the past, the city had several times requested an extension of the deadline for its completion, and no work had been done on the unfinished building, which had been deteriorating for about 25 years.

In June two years ago, the city council initially rejected the owner's repeated request for an extension of the completion deadline. Ultimately, both parties agreed on the terms for completing the construction. The reconstruction began in March.

According to the contractual supplement, the building's cladding, meaning the façade and roof, had to be completed by the end of 2016. The entire construction must be finished by the end of this year.

This morning, city representatives inspected the state of the building. "I can state that progress is noticeable and the skeleton is no longer disfiguring Ostrava after more than 25 years, and that the manner and extent of the cladding of the building meets the requirements set out in the contract. Upon a quick glance at the building, we do see areas that remain uncovered, but these are necessary for the subsequent implementation of the work and the installation of technologies," said Deputy Mayor Břetislav Riger (Ostravak). According to him, everything so far suggests that the construction could be completed on time.

The unfinished building was originally to serve as the regional headquarters of the Communist Party. After 1989, it remained standing as a remnant of the past regime. It is located in a relatively busy area near the cultural house and the regional office.
