Brno - The logistics center at the airport in Brno-Tuřany will not be built for half a billion crowns yet. The South Moravian regional council today did not approve the proposal to implement the changes necessary to initiate construction. The main reason is the need to revise the relationships between the region and the company Airport Brno, said the regional governor's deputy Taťána Malá (ANO) to reporters. The region owns the airport and the adjacent land, which it leases to the company and its firms. The transport company TNT wanted to utilize the park for about 125 jobs. According to Malá, the region is interested in the construction of the center, but it must first resolve the relationship with the airport.
The company Airport Brno has leased the Brno airport from the region for 50 years. Its subsidiary Brno Airport Logistic Park (BALP) wants to build the park, leasing the land next to the airport since 2007 with the help of an easement. If the construction is not completed on site this May, the easement will expire, and the region will have greater influence over decisions regarding the land.
The region originally had a different plan for the land, and a change to the zoning decision is required for the construction of the logistics center. However, the council did not grant permission to initiate the change proceedings, so construction cannot start. According to Malá, they had three reasons for this. "The main reason is the necessary revision of the relationship between Airport Brno and the region. After consulting with experts and lawyers, we concluded that it is not appropriate to burden the land related to this relationship in any way," Malá stated. Another reason, according to her, is inconsistencies in the request for change and the attached documentation. "Some documents that should be in the file are missing. The last reason is that there has been a fundamental change in the project compared to the original. For example, there is a significant increase in parking spaces," Malá added.
In the past, some media speculated that the region might not benefit from the center as much as it could under the current conditions. "We want to set the utilization of the land in such a way that it is as advantageous as possible for the region. The city of Brno and the Brno-Tuřany district also issued a dissenting opinion, which relates to the matter," Malá emphasized. She stated that the region wants to negotiate with all interested parties.
The international transport company TNT expressed interest in the infrastructure at the airport, wanting to start operations at the logistics park in the second half of this year. It flies several times a week and transports approximately 4000 tons of goods yearly. Until now, it has had no infrastructure at the airport and transports prepared shipments to it. The initial investment for the construction was estimated at around half a billion crowns. The buildings were to be located on an area of about 1.5 hectares. TNT was expected to provide jobs for about 125 people.
