Brno - The South Moravian councillors today approved a plan that will allow the construction of a logistics park near the Brno airport in Tuřany. This was reported in a press release by the regional spokesperson Eliška Windová. According to her, the international transport company TNT is interested in the project and would like to start operations in the second half of next year. The company did not respond to inquiries sent by ČTK.
TNT is already using the Brno airport. "It flies five times a week on weekdays and transports approximately 4,000 tons of goods annually. However, it currently does not have any facilities at the airport and transports prepared shipments to the airport," said airport director Tomáš Plaček to ČTK. The most frequent destination for these cargo planes from Brno is Liège, Belgium.
According to Deputy Governor Roman Hanák (ČSSD), about 125 people will find work in the first phase, which involves the construction of one out of four halls. "In the coming years, there will likely be a significant increase in the number of employees," he added. He stated that the company aims to expand towards eastern markets.
Whether the logistics park will be built by the company Brno Airport Logistic Park (BALP), which is a subsidiary of Brno Airport and has requested approval for the project, is currently uncertain. "Other investors can also apply for the project. Whether one or more interested parties apply, the offers will be evaluated by the council," said Hanák.
The project is expected to be posted on the official notice board from Tuesday. The region is set to receive at least 11.3 million crowns for the approval of the establishment of a building right. The owner of the buildings will be the one who constructs them. The first phase is expected to involve an investment of half a billion crowns.
Previously, the region unsuccessfully offered land north of the airport to, for example, Amazon in 2014, and has since sought a potential investor. It is planned that the logistics park will be connected by a road that will turn off from Evropská Street via a rail siding.
