Doksy - In Doksy, in the Česká Lípa region, the reconstruction of the K. H. Mácha Memorial, which is a branch of the Česká Lípa Museum, will begin in February. The memorial, which is the oldest log cabin building in the city, is expected to remain closed for about two years. The work is divided into several stages, said the museum director Zdeněk Vitáček to ČTK today.
The first step in the building from 1669 will be the roof repair including the trusses for 8.2 million crowns. "We have now emptied everything including the exhibits. We will hand over the construction site on February 5," said the museum director. The roof repair is expected to last until autumn.
According to Vitáček, the museum wants to follow this with a complete overhaul of the exhibits. "There won't be a stone left unturned. We had two exhibits there, one focused on fishing and the other on Mácha. There will be one - Mácha in the region, how he came here, and together with him, we will travel through the region," said the museum director.
The tourist accommodation with five double rooms on the upper floor of the memorial is also set to undergo changes. "We want to offer experiential accommodation; each room will be themed," added Vitáček. The rooms will also reference the original use of the building, which previously housed a small hospital.
This season, the Česká Lípa Museum will have two of its three branches closed. The Vísecká rychtář in Kravaře has been closed since last year due to roof reconstruction costing more than ten million crowns. "The roof and trusses should be completed by the beginning of this April, but we will also be expanding and updating the exhibition there," the museum director stated. The exhibition dedicated to folk architecture in northern Bohemia will include a section dedicated to local cottages of actors, musicians, and singers. Vitáček expects the Vísecká rychtář to open to the public next year.
