Lučany nad Nisou (Jablonec) - The popular Jizera-Mountains lookout tower Bramberk near Lučany nad Nisou in the Jablonec region has been declared an immovable cultural monument since July. The mayor of Lučany, Jiří Řešátko (Association for Lučany nad Nisou) informed ČTK about this today. The century-old stone lookout tower, built according to the design of Jablonec architect Robert Hemmrich, has belonged to the town since last April. Lučany bought it at an auction for 2.51 million crowns. The municipality had to borrow a million to purchase the lookout tower. We still have 400,000 crowns left to repay, added the mayor. The Liberec Region wants to help the town with repayment. "The regional council proposes to the assembly that the town of Lučany be provided with an individual grant of 200,000 crowns as a contribution for the repair and purchase of this lookout tower as part of tourism development," said Deputy Governor Hana Maierová (Mayors for the Liberec Region) to ČTK today. According to her, Lučany is proceeding very responsibly, as the town itself requested the inclusion of the lookout tower on the list of monuments. "While this may complicate the construction process during repairs, on the other hand, it opens up the possibility for the town to utilize regional and state grants for its restoration," Maierová added. The Bramberk lookout tower is one of the symbols of Lučany; its construction was once initiated and funded by the local section of the German Mountain Club. The stone lookout tower was built at an elevation of 787 meters above sea level on the site of the original wooden lookout tower from 1889. The construction, which is part of the ring of lookout towers in the Jizera Mountains, was designed by Jablonec architect Hemmrich, who is also the author of lookout towers in Proseč and Horní Černá Studnice. The lookout tower at Bramberk was ceremonially opened in 1912 and has since been a popular destination for tourists in the Jizera Mountains. Last year, it was visited by 9,000 people. The city receives help with the repayment of the lookout tower and funding for its restoration not only from the Liberec Region. "Jablonec gave us 150,000 crowns last year, 400,000 crowns were added by Jablonec businessman and owner of Jablotron Dalibor Dědek, and companies and individual donors are also helping," said Řešátko. According to him, small donors contribute through the public collection Bramberk 80039-963239399/0800. "We use the money not only for repaying the debt but also for repairs. This year, we repaired the spiral staircase and brought electricity to the tower, but it also needs a roof repair and repointing of the masonry, with costs estimated at another 800,000 to a million crowns," the mayor added. The proceeds from the festival, which will take place near the lookout tower on August 15, will also go to the collection.
