Sadská – Sadská in Nymburk has completed the main part of the work on the restoration of the Baroque chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was in a dilapidated state. After treating the interior furnishings, the city plans to use it for organizing concerts, exhibitions, and wedding ceremonies. The work cost nearly nine million crowns, with about half of the expenses covered by a grant from the Central Bohemian Region and European funds. The chapel will open to the public at the end of August during the harvest festival, said Sadská mayor Milan Dokoupil (Together for Sadská) to ČTK.

The work mainly included static reinforcement of the building, roof repairs, new trusses, and façade reconstruction. Compared to the original budget, the work exceeded costs by 2.5 million crowns, as it became clear during the renovation that the structure was in significantly worse condition than expected. "The truss was severely damaged, the roof was leaking, there were large cracks in the walls, so when the truss started to be dismantled, the walls began to collapse, it had to be quickly saved, connected with tie rods, and the cracks filled," said Dokoupil. According to him, the rescue came at the last moment.

According to him, the plan still includes treating the interior furnishings, benches, and altar, which are infested with woodworms. The original Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1749, which used to be in the square, is to be placed in the chapel, while a copy will be set in its original location.

The chapel was built between 1775 and 1779 according to the plans of the Baroque architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The city acquired the dilapidated chapel several years ago for the symbolic price of one crown from the church, which did not have the funds for the maintenance of this significant monument.
