Brno: VUTIUM – Barrister & Principal Publishing 2017. 402 pp., 300 images. The long-awaited translation of a key work by the American researcher and pioneer of a new, scientific interpretation of architecture. Nikos A. Salingaros "re-discovers" architecture by explaining its forgotten rules and offering guidance on how it can reconnect with nature and human nature. He draws on three scientific perspectives: from the perspective of biology and ecology, from modern neuroscience, and from mathematics – hence the title Unified Theory of Architecture. The book can be read as a continuous professional treatise as well as a textbook for a unique course for architecture students. It includes texts from other leading scientists and figures in contemporary discourse on architecture, such as Edward O. Wilson, Léon Krier, and Christopher Alexander. The editor of the Czech edition, Martin Horáček, has enriched the book with a rich visual appendix, an insightful foreword, and an interview with the author. Nikos A. Salingaros (*1952) is an internationally recognized theorist of architecture and urbanist. He is the author of several books and studies, breaking new ground in connecting mathematics, natural sciences, and architectural design. He serves as a professor of mathematics at the University of Texas in San Antonio. During the presentation of the book in the hall of the rectorate of VUT, it will be possible to purchase the book at a discounted price.
