Slatiňany will postpone the renovation of the swimming pool by a year, starting it in 2023

Slatiňany - The town of Slatiňany in the Chrudim region will postpone the repairs of the swimming pool by a year. The dilapidated area needs to be repaired, but the city council is not budgeting for the reconstruction this year due to the project's cost. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Stanislav Šťastný (ODS and TOP 09). Originally, the city intended to start the first phase of repairs last September after the end of the summer season, as the swimming pool is in poor structural condition. The cost is estimated to be around 65 million crowns.

"Originally, repairs were planned for this year, but it's quite a large amount. We didn't know how the city's income would develop, and so we didn't want to embark on such a large project, but it will be prepared for 2023," said the deputy mayor.

The city is now preparing a project for a building permit, so it will have all the documentation ready for next year. The estimated price of 65 million crowns may change. It depends on how material and labor prices develop. The city council is expected to pay for the swimming pool from its budget.

"In the past, there were no grants for swimming pools; cities paid for repairs themselves. We have a reserve of about 90 million crowns. The question is what will be more urgent than the swimming pool. We need to complete the sewer system in Kunčí, for which we could get a grant," said Šťastný.

According to the investment department, it is possible to keep the swimming pool in operation this year; it will not be necessary to shut it down. The fifty-meter pool is particularly in a state of disrepair. The city wants to install a new liner, replace the pool technology, and also provide water attractions. The second phase currently includes the construction of an operational building, which will include restrooms, showers, changing rooms, and refreshments. In the third phase, the city will focus on modifications to the space between the swimming pool area and the Spartak sports area. It will build a parking lot, restore greenery, and construct a fence.
