Slavonice will open the renovated Community House from 1932

Slavonice (Jindřichohradecko) - After more than a year, the renovation of the Community House in Slavonice in the Jindřichův Hradec region has been completed. The building, with an eighty-year history, will be ceremonially opened to the public on Saturday. The costs of the renovation, furnishing of the house, and ensuring two years of operation amounted to 54 million crowns. Olga Žampová from the Slavonice Renaissance Society informed ČTK about this.
    The house is intended primarily for the activities of various societies. According to Žampová, there are approximately 15 registered in Slavonice. "Considering that there are 2500 inhabitants, Slavonice is probably a record holder in the number of societies per capita," said Žampová.
    The building is designed and constructed to meet the requirements of low-energy operation. According to Žampová, for the Slavonice Renaissance Society, the completion of the renovation does not end the project. "It is up to us to bring social life back to the Community House now," she stated. The costs of 54 million crowns were largely covered by grants from European funds. The Slavonice Renaissance Society financed ten percent of the project's cost.
    The house was built in 1932 by German residents. According to Žampová, the building has a very colorful history. Initially, it was used for gatherings by Germans supporting Adolf Hitler, and after 1948, local organizations of the communist party were established there. "In that building is the essence of the worst of the 20th century. But it also makes the building interesting to me," said Žampová. Later, the building functioned until the late 80s as a cultural house and screening cinema.
    According to Žampová, the Community House is becoming an alternative to other social spaces in Slavonice, such as the cultural house, the city museum, and the conference institute.
